How the process usually works

1. Tell us the task and the document you need.

2. Drafting in the format accepted by the authority that will rely on it.

3. Signing abroad before an Indian Embassy or Consulate, or a notary followed by an apostille.

4. Sending the original to India for adjudication and stamp duty, generally within three months of its receipt in India.

5. Registration where required, then handing it to your representative to act on.

Documents usually needed

• Passport and OCI card copies

• Passport-size photographs

• ID proof of the person you are authorising

• Property or matter details the document covers

• Witness details, as required

• Address proof abroad and in India

The execution, stamping and registration requirements depend on the document, its purpose and the applicable state laws.
